FARGO FARM SHOW TO HOST N.D. CORN GROWERS ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL MEETING JANUARY 16, 2003

Fargo Farm Show manager, Penny Swank announced today that the Fargo Farm Show will host the North Dakota Corn Growers Association annual meeting. The association meetings and luncheon will be held Thursday, January 16, 2003 in the upper level meeting rooms at the FargoDome. Ms. Swank said, "We are delighted that the North Dakota Corn Growers have selected the Fargo Farm Show as their meeting site for the second consecutive year. It is a great event that ties in perfectly with the show, and our efforts to include elements in the show that have the greatest value for farmers attending." The Fargo Farm Show hosted the association's annual meeting for the first time last year, utilizing the upper level meeting rooms in the all new lobby of the FargoDome.

Details of the meeting will be published on the N.D. Corn Growers' website (www.ndcorn.com ) and at http://www.farmshowsusa.com/Mains/FMain.htm as speakers and agenda are finalized.

Admission to the Fargo Farm Show is FREE, hours are 9 AM to 5 PM Tuesday and Wednesday, and 9 AM to 4 PM Thursday, January 14 , 15, 16, 2003

NEW Skidsteer Give Away Promotion Featured
at the 9th Annual Fargo Farm Show

When the 9th ANNUAL FARGO FARM SHOW opens Tuesday, January 16, attendees will view hundreds of exhibits by many Major manufacturers, as well as numerous new exhibits ..Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, January 16, 17, 18, 2001 are the dates for the 2001 The Fargo Farm Show .

Show Manager, Penny Swank, says A We expect the addition of the NDSU Corn School and the Skidsteer Lease Give Away will generate strong interest from farmers and ranchers throughout the area. They will be treated to displays from nearly 300 exhibitors showcasing more than 500 lines of goods and services@ The equipment displays run the gamut for the newest in power equipment to the unusual implements needed for raising and harvesting the diverse number of unique crops raised in the Red River Valley.

In addition to exhibits, those attending the 9th Annual Fargo Farm Show will have the opportunity to participate in a new promotion. A One Year Lease of a Skidsteer will be awarded to one lucky winner the last day of the show. Chances to win will be awarded during a pre show promotion on KFGO Radio, and chances to win will be awarded the first two days of the show. Beginning at noon the final day of the show, those who have won chances during the promotion will gather at the KFGO Booth to determine the winner. The prize will be chosen from one of the participating sponsors of the promotion, in other words, the winner will meet with all participating sponsors immediately after the awarding of the prize and have their pick of skidsteers from any of the sponsors.

The Very Popular $1000.00 Daily Give Away is also returning. Each Day one lucky person attending will win $1000.00 in merchandise chosen from one of the promotion's sponsors. AAt the time of this release, winners will be able to choose from tools, seed, feed, chemicals, canvas products, software and cellular service for the $1000.00 give away and of course a skidsteer from one of the sponsors of that event.@ said Midwest Shows Marketing Director, John Sampson. He continued AWe have moved to these type promotions over things like trip give aways because it involves our exhibitors and gives the winner a meaningful prize to utilize in their farming efforts.@

The NDSU CORN SCHOOL is a great addition to the show and will offer Certified Crop Advisor CEU credits for those attending all sessions. Educational sessions for the 2001 Fargo Farm Show are coordinated by the Cass County office of the NDSU Extension Service and will focus on corn production. Sessions will run from 11 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. each day of the show, Jan. 16, 17 and 18.

NDSU extension specialists will present a variety of topics related to corn production. The Farm Show sessions will provide an alternative to the Tri-State Corn Symposium and NDSU Corn School, which have been offered in the past but are not scheduled for 2001.

All sessions will be presented in the new meeting facilities created by the recent addition to the FARGODOME.

January 16

The first session at 11 a.m. on Tuesday will be on staging of corn and production principles, presented by NDSU agronomist Duane Berglund and Denise McWilliams, crop production specialist for NDSU and the University of Minnesota. The hour session will cover information on how to stage corn in the field, physiological processes that influence yield, and production practices that can help management and increase crop yields.

The 1 p.m. session on Tuesday will address corn disease and insect management. Marcia McMullen, NDSU plant pathologist, and Phil Glogoza, NDSU entomologist, will cover corn diseases and insects that affect crop growth and yield. Identification and life cycle timing of these pests as well as their influence on corn throughout the region will be discussed.

January 17

Wednesday's 11 a.m. session will feature Richard Zollinger, NDSU weed specialist, covering weed management strategies in corn. He will provide information on new corn herbicides for the region as well as recommendations on both conventional and genetically modified corn. Advice on tank mixes and additives, rates, timing and coordinating weed control strategies will be given, along with suggestions on weeds that are difficult to control in corn.

The 1 p.m. session on Wednesday, presented by David Kraenzel, NDSU economic development specialist, will cover information on emerging specialty corn markets. Forecasts on future speciality markets and information on how large these markets may become will be covered.

January 18

On Thursday, the 11 a.m. session presented by David Franzen, NDSU soils specialist, will cover suggestions and options for meeting fertility requirements in corn. Options on dryland and irrigated corn, managing yield by providing proper fertility, and making better management decisions by knowing soil constraints will be discussed.

The final session at 1 p.m. on Thursday, presented by Ken Hellevang, NDSU agricultural engineer, will address drying, handling and storage of corn. The hour will cover detailed management strategies for drying, handling and storing corn from the end of the growing season through to sale of the crop.

Continuing education units (CEUs) for Certified Crop Advisor will be available.
